September 5-7 2008 Paulina lake is located in the Newberry Crater National Monument. There are two main campgrounds, Paulina Lake Campground, and Little Crater Campground. Little crater is the better of the two. Both have boat ramps and the Little Crater camp has two nice beach areas for boat use. We actually prefer to not camp in either. We like to boat camp on the north shore by the hot springs. There are a couple non-regulated beach sites there also, with marshy, reed beaches, which have enough space for several small tents. There is no camping with in the hot springs area. If one boat camps all you need to pay for is the $10.00 3 day monument pass, or have a valid Northwest forest pass. If you plan on camping in the campgrounds then you will have to pay for a campsite on top of the the other passes. The campsite fees range from 12.00/night-14.00/night. Each additional non-rv is 6.00/night. Things to do at the lake: Paulina is popular for Kokanee fishing, the wind blows fairly constantly in the afternoons so it is a popular lake to sail. There are the hot springs that are nice for soaking in. The crawdads are plentiful along the rocky ledges near the hot springs. During the summer months the lodge has bbq dinners, that are well worth the money. Somwe folks will be launching from the Little Crater Campground.
